Meet Your Instructors
Among the venerated instructors of the Eco-Ag U Online courses are faces familiar to those seeking to learn about soil health, biological farming, ecological and economical farming, and more. Here are a few of the experts you can learn from at Eco-Ag U Online:
Mark Shepard
Author, farmer and consultant Mark Shepard is the CEO of Restoration Agriculture Development, Forest Agriculture Enterprises and runs New Forest Farms, a 110-acre perennial agricultural savanna, one of the first of its kind in the United States. He has been designing and installing farm and ranch-scale rainwater management systems since 1995. He is the author of Restoration Agriculture: Real-world Permaculture for Farmers and Water for Any Farm both published by Acres U.S.A., and has been speaking at the Eco-Ag Conference & Trade Show for more than a decade.
Gary Zimmer
As the founder of Midwestern BioAg and Zimmer Ag Consulting, Gary Zimmer was given the label of “father” of biological agriculture for his work introducing soil biology as a critical piece of soil management, during a time when minerals and chemistry were the only real considerations. Zimmer owns Otter Creek Organic Farm, a family-operated, award-winning 1,000 acre farm near Lone Rock, Wisconsin, and has been on the board of Taliesin Preservation Inc. since 2011. Zimmer is the author of three books, The Biological Farmer (Second Edition), and Advancing Biological Farming, and numerous articles on soils and livestock nutrition.
Paul Dorrance
Paul is an author, speaker, consultant and regenerative agriculture advocate. His journey back to farming started in 2013 when he started Pastured Providence Farmstead — a successful pasture-based livestock operation, marketing 100% grass-fed beef and lamb, as well as pastured non-GMO pork, poultry, and eggs directly to consumers in southern and central Ohio. Paul writes for Acres U.S.A. and speaks at agricultural conferences and gatherings around the country. He is a graduate of Ohio Farm Bureau’s “AgriPOWER,” sits on the steering committee of the “Ohio Smart Agriculture – Solutions From The Land” project, is the Chairman of the American Farm Bureau’s Issue Advisory Committee on Organic and Direct Marketing, and serves on the board of the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association. Previously an active duty Air Force officer, Paul still serves our nation as a pilot in the Air Force Reserves.

I found that all of the topics were pertinent and thought provoking. The “homework” fostered a solid framework for a profitable farming business. Thank you!
Matt Eland
The course was very well constructed to provide a progressive and thoughtful approach to sound biological farming principles. Eco-Ag Online assisted guiding me toward course completion. As a farmer I liked the ability to complete the course on my own time schedule. The calendar is now approaching spring and time to put my new knowledge into practice. Thanks Eco-Ag.
Rick Gras
Good info, help me keep the fertilizer salesman at bay! We forget how important biology is to the whole system and this course keeps its focus on how to support beneficial management of biology to accomplish our goals as farmers.
